Undergraduate Paper Competition 2015

In 2015, WARA will be offering four awards for outstanding undergraduate essays on West Africa. We welcome essays in all disciplinary areas and on topics of current relevance to the region. This competition is open to all students who are enrolled in undergraduate programs at a WARA member institution.

All applications for WARA grants, including the WARA Residency, must be submitted online. Below are descriptions of each grant. Applications will be available November 1st.

Séverine Autesserre, Assistant Professor of Political Science at Barnard College, releases her new book "Peaceland: Conflict Resolution and the Everyday Politics of International Intervention."

The Council for the Development of Social Science Research in Africa (CODESRIA) and the African Peacebuilding Network (APN) of the Social Science Research Council (SSRC), in conjunction with the Raoul Wallenburg Institute (RWI), the Centre for Democracy and Development (CDD) West Africa, and the Open Society Foundations (OSF), jointly held an international conference on the theme “International Criminal Justice, Reconciliation, and Peace in Africa: The ICC and Beyond.” The event took place in Dakar, Senegal, July 10–12, 2014.

The Institute of African Studies invites applications for the Africa Workshop, a new series to support innovative research in African Studies. Scholars from all disciplines are invited to apply. 

BAMcinématek is about to begin its annual FilmAfrica series May 23—26 in conjunction with BAM’s DanceAfrica celebration. Co-presented by the New York African Film Festival. It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Professor George Clement Bond, The William F. Russell Professor of Anthropology and Education, Director of the Center for African Education and former Chair of the Department of International and Transcultural Studies at Teachers College, Columbia University.
