Call for Papers
The Consortium for Asian and African Studies [CAAS] will hold its Sixth Annual Symposium at Hankuk University of Foreign University in Seoul, on Tuesday and Wednesday, October 27-28, 2015. Graduate students and faculty of the seven CAAS member universities (Columbia, INALCO, Leiden, NUS, SOAS, TUFS, and HUFS) are invited to submit proposals for papers.
Symposium Theme
The 2015 CAAS conference invites proposals for papers on the topic of global and the local issues, and especially papers that employ new concepts and approaches to Asian and African area. Papers on other topics relevant to the interdisciplinary study of Asian and African culture, history, literature, and society are also welcome.
Papers will be selected based on content and approach, potential for exchange among the participants, and benefits, including a broad range of topics and disciplines. The papers will be grouped by themes into panels, which will be conducted as workshops, with 15-minute presentations by speakers, 10-minute remarks by commentators and as much discussion as possible among the participants and the audience.
Submission
Papers submitted to the organizers by September 30 will be made available to the audience at the Symposium. English is the language of the Symposium, and as in the past four CAAS Symposia, we especially welcome applications from graduate students and post-docs as well as from faculty members.
Submit a Symposium Proposal:
1) A one-page proposal describing the topic and approach of the paper
2) A curriculum vitae (1-2 pages maximum), combined in a single PDF document, which should sent as an e-mail attachment to [email protected]

- Notification of acceptance: 30 July 2015
- Deadline for paper submission: 30 September 2015
- Symposium date: 27-28 October 2015
As in earlier CAAS Symposia, travel expense will be covered by home institutions.
