9th Greater New York Area African History Workshop
Friday, March 27, 2015
Alexander Library – Teleconference Lecture Hall, 4th Floor, 169 College Avenue
Rutgers University, New Brunswick, NJ
The Rutgers University History Department, Center for African Studies, and the Center for Middle Eastern Studies proudly present the 9th Greater New York Area African Studies Workshop on Friday, March 27th, 2015.
The meeting will be held in the Teleconference Lecture Hall (SCC403), Alexander Library, 169 College Avenue, New Brunswick, NJ 08901-1163, from 9am-6pm (driving directions: http://search.rutgers.edu/buildings.html?q=alexander+library). In past years, this workshop has always served as an inviting space where faculty and graduate students working on diverse historical topics can meet in a small setting. This year we are reaching out to our North African scholars and graduate students to join us with the hope that we can have a truly continental representation. This has been the case somewhat in past years but we’re hoping that this can become more institutionalized and open a ‘friendly space’ that encourages a continent-wide dialogue. We will follow the format of the 8th workshop hosted last March by Emmanuel Krieke and Zachary Kagan Guthrie at Princeton University. There will be about 4-5 sessions with 3-4 papers each. We will have a continental breakfast from 8:15am-9am, a catered lunch around noon and a light dinner after 5:00pm.
Paper proposal: We welcome papers on all topics related to the history of any area of the continent of Africa and all historical periods. Please submit a proposal by February 15, 2015 that includes: (1) Your name, affiliation and a paper title; (2) a 250 world abstract; (3) a brief 1-2 pg c.v; and (4) a 4-5 line paragraph describing your main research interests.
Please send proposals to: [email protected].
