Women's Rights and Political Empowerment In Nigeria: A Discussion with Sharon Ikeazor

Sharon Ikeazor is a member of the Board of Trustees of the All Progressives Congress (APC), one of the largest political parties in Africa. She served as the first National Women Leader of the party shortly after its formation, continuing a role she had played at the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), one of the founding parties of the APC. During her time on the APC's executive board, Ikeazor worked extensively with partners and party members from all levels and states to address the broad range of challenges women in the party face.

Working with leaders from Nigeria's various regions, she harmonized and articulated the party's vision for women, engaging with stakeholders at the grassroots, state and national levels. She established the Young Women's Forum as an avenue for the development and growth of the party's young women members – one of the most resilient and impactful demographic within the party. She is also the Vice President of Women in Politics Forum (WIPF) which was founded to build the capacity of female politicians and the founder of Wakiliyan Mata Empowerment Initiative, an NGO for the internally displaced women in the North East part of Nigeria.

She is a firm believer in girl child education, having sponsored several girls to complete primary, secondary and tertiary education in Nigeria. Prior to her current service in politics, Ikeazor worked for over 25 years in the energy, consulting and legal industries, rising to senior management roles in several international organizations. Ikeazor received a degree in Law from the University of Benin, Nigeria.
