Student Spotlight: Abenezer Amanuel

Abenezer Amanuel is a senior at Columbia College, majoring in Computer Science with an interest in African studies. Born and raised in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, he serves as a board member for the Columbia Ethiopian Eritrean Student Association (CUEESA) and the African Development Group (ADG).

Inspired by Professor Jinny Prais' African Civilizations Course, Abenezer developed a particular interest in the role of artificial intelligence (AI) in preserving and developing African languages. Combining his expertise in software engineering, web development, and AI, he aims to advance Africa's technological growth by advocating for innovative, tech-driven solutions to its unique challenges.

Above all, he is committed to fostering interdisciplinary dialogue on Africa's development and inspiring students to engage deeply with its challenges and contribute to its progress.
