Jesús Abad Colorado López was born in Medellín, Antioquia, on April 22nd, 1967. He studied Journalism at the Universidad de Antioquia, where he began to work as a documentary photographer. He was a press photographer for El Colombiano between 1992 and May 2001, when he started working as an independent photojournalist. He has captured different facets of the Colombian armed conflict. His archive, compiled over the last thirty years, shows the impact of the different armed and political actor’s on the lives of communities and their territories. His work is a complex account of pain and destruction, but also our people’s bravery and resistance. His testimony is paramount not only for victims in their efforts to demand truth and fight impunity but also for social researchers and national and international courts, such as the Inter-American Court of Human Rights (IACHR) and the Organization of American States (OAS).
María Belén Sáez de Ibarra is a curator, editor, and cultural manager. She studied Law at the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana and holds a master’s in Environmental and International Law from the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) of the University of London. She has lectured for the Cultural Studies Master’s program, at the Universidad Javeriana, and Politics of Art at the Universidad de los Andes. Following her work with the Colombian Ministry of Culture, as an advisor in arts and heritage, she has been in charge of the Cultural Heritage Direction at the Universidad Nacional since 2007.
Joel Simon is a fellow at the Tow Center for Digital Journalism at Columbia Journalism School and formerly the Executive Director of the Committee to Protect Journalists. Simon led CPJ through an expansion, growing its network of global correspondents, creating a new North America program focused on press freedom advocacy in the United States, and helping to develop an Emergency Response Team focused on safety and direct assistance to journalists in crisis around the world. Simon has participated in CPJ missions from Argentina to Zimbabwe. Simon’s latest book co-authored with Deputy Director of CPJ, Robert Mahoney and published by Columbia Global Reports, titled "The Infodemic: How Censorship and Lies Made the World Sicker and Less Free,” was released on April 5th.
