In view of record-breaking droughts in the Horn of Africa, devastating flooding in Nigeria and South Sudan, and extreme heatwaves in the Maghreb, the significance of COP 27 occurring in Egypt cannot be overstated: states must work to highlight and address African issues of climate change from all angles at this year's conference of the parties.

Co-sponsored by the Columbia Climate School and Columbia Climate Conversations, Dr. Yvette Christiansë will moderate a conversation between a group of experts drawn from different academic and policy backgrounds to tackle the science, history and politics of climate priorities on the continent. Dr. Kiros Berhane, Dr. Tatiana Carayannis, Dr. Harry Verhoeven, and Alexandra Peek will focus on the role of academia, international organizations and civil society as the world deliberates the contours of climate action in Africa.
