IGP and The Africa Center present a discussion on the future of Africa’s mining sector.

As global competition for Africa’s critical minerals intensifies, African institutions, researchers, industry leaders, and innovators are reshaping the future of the continent’s mining sector. This panel will explore the cutting-edge trends, technologies, and initiatives driving African-led innovation and industrial resilience. From national refining strategies to eco-mining, panelists will address how Africa can capture greater value, strengthen sovereignty over its minerals, and shift from a supplier of raw materials to a setter of global standards. Join us for a dynamic conversation bridging policy, research, and on-the-ground solutions—centered on African interests and ingenuity.

Speakers will include:

  • Jason Bordoff, Professor of Professional Practice, Founding Director of the Center on Global Energy Policy, and IGP Faculty Advisory Board Member, Columbia SIPA; Cofounding Dean of Columbia Climate School
  • Martin Kimani, President and CEO of The Africa Center, Former Permanent Representative of Kenya to the UN, Former IGP Carnegie Distinguished Fellow

This event is sponsored by the Institute of Global Politics at Columbia SIPA and The Africa Center.
