Shamira Lukomwa

Shamira Lukomwa is a Ugandan-American that calls Atlanta, GA (among other places) home. She is a first-year MPA candidate at SIPA and is particularly interested in urban development, education and job-creation in Sub-Saharan Africa. At SIPA, Shamira serves as the Events Co-Chair of the SIPA Pan-Africa Network (SPAN) and the Communications Chair of RISE, a working group on Race, Inequality, Solidary and Economics. 

Prior to starting her graduate studies, Shamira conducted research on the prevalence of sugar-daddy relationships amongst female university students in Nairobi; developed, managed and led international educational service-learning programs in East and West Africa; and headed the communication and marketing department of an ARTivism hub in Nairobi, where she directed an inaugural street arts festival with over 2,000 attendees. 

Shamira holds dual Bachelor degrees in Global Studies and Communication Studies from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
