Lily Ghebrai

Lily Ghebrai is currently pursuing an MPA in Economic and Political Development from Columbia SIPA. Lily is originally from Asmara, Eritrea and grew up in Seattle, WA. She is currently working as a graduate intern with Amazon’s International Public Policy team.

This past summer, Lily interned at The TCW Group, a Los Angeles-based asset management firm, where she worked as a Sovereign Research Analyst in the Emerging Markets Group. In this capacity, Lily expanded the firm’s Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) Scorecard. Through Lily’s work, TCW added several critical indicators to its ESG Momentum Scorecard, including greenhouse gas emission levels, air pollution data, proportion of fuel exports, age dependency ratio, and migration rates.

Prior to attending SIPA, Lily worked as the Africa Analyst at Eurasia Group, a political risk consulting firm based in New York City. In this role, Lily developed 12- and 24-month forecasts for governments, global energy corporations, retail giants, and international banks after analyzing key political events, policy decisions, and geopolitical trends. Lily also spent time working closely with Eurasia Group’s CEO on business expansion efforts, which facilitated the launch of offices in Singapore and Brasilia. Finally, Lily co-authored a thought leadership piece commissioned by the Atlantic Council, titled "Asian Energy Transition: Moving the Oil Market One Step Closer to Peak Demand?” which examines issues of sustainability, energy security, and disruptions to global oil demand stemming from innovations in the transportation sector.

Following her time at Eurasia Group—and immediately preceding her enrollment at SIPA—Lily was Head of Business Development at GeoQuant, a political risk tech firm that blends computer science and political science to produce binary, AI-driven political risk predictions.
