Fulbright U.S. Scholar Opportunities in Sub-Saharan Africa
The Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program is now accepting applications for the 2019-20 academic year. Opportunities are available for artists, college and university faculty, professionals, and independent scholars to teach and conduct research at educational institutions and research institutions throughout Sub-Saharan Africa. Fulbright Scholars represent the diversity of the United States and build lasting relationships with students, collaborators, the wider research community, and/or institutions abroad that serve as the foundation for future collaborations.
Cote d’Ivoire: Mechanical Engineering and Technology Instruction award
Ten month grant to teach undergraduate courses in mechanical engineering technology and possibly in mathematics. The scholar should be comfortable in contributing to a new program, where students need to be recruited into the program, and not all of the equipment is at hand. The scholar should be willing to work with people who might be able to suggest local alternatives for teaching situations, including local industries.
Democratic Republic of the Congo: All Disciplines award and Public Health award
Ten month grants to teach graduate courses at the host institution. Scholars with the Public Health award will assist with student advising, conduct training for faculty and conduct research.
Madagascar: All Disciplines award
Nine month grant to teach undergraduate and graduate courses and conduct research in area of specialization. Scholars may also engage in any of the following activities: provide tutorials and thesis and dissertation advising; prepare doctoral students for research work and academic conferences; assist with conferences; and advise junior faculty at the University of Antananarivo.
Malawi: All Disciplines award
Five to ten month grant to teach undergraduate or graduate courses in any discipline taught at the host universities. Scholars will assist with student advising and curriculum development and may conduct research in area of specialization. Applications are sought in all appropriate disciplines, especially education, political science, and theater.
Mauritius: All Disciplines award
Six to ten month grant to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in any discipline offered at the host institution. Scholars will assist with undergraduate project supervision, thesis advising and tutorials. They will also contribute to curriculum development and conduct research in area of specialization. Applications are sought in all appropriate disciplines, will applications in the following disciplines preferred: business administration, economics, and public administration.
Zambia: Multiple Disciplines Copperbelt University and University of Zambia awards
Ten month grant to teach undergraduate courses. Scholars will provide tutorials, assist with student advising and contribute to curriculum development and contribute to faculty mentoring and training. They will also give seminars, workshops and public lectures and conduct research in area of specialization. Applications are sought in all appropriate disciplines, like anthropology, area studies, and communications.
Zimbabwe: All Disciplines and Midwifery Education awards
Ten month grants to teach graduate courses. For the Midwifery Education award, the average class size is 12 students and it will be a lecture style seminar and tutorial. They will also conduct research in area of specialization.
